Dr Madilwa received his MBCh.B from University of Natal in 1998. He did his internship at Anglogold Health Service (AHS) in Welkom in 1999, followed by community service in the King Edward VIII–Mahatma Gandhi and Clairwood Hospital complex in 2000.
He spent one more year in Welkom (AHS) as a Medical officer responsible for the HIV and TB clinics, 2001.
In 2002 he joined the department of Anatomical Pathology in the University of Natal as a registrar, then based at the Medical School and subsequently in Albert Luthuli.
He qualified as a fellow of the College of Anatomical Pathologist of South Africa, FC Path (Anat.)(SA), In May of 2006. He worked as a consultant in the department until he joined Lancet Laboratories in December 2006 where he has worked since.
Specific areas of interest include breast pathology, dermatopathology, neuropathology and gynaecologic cytopathology.
